Monash Boulevards Urban Design Framework
The Monash Housing Strategy (2014) identified 2 main boulevards in the City of Monash (Dandenong Road and Springvale Road) as areas with future redevelopment potential - including housing change and diversification (taking into account physical constraints, prevailing neighbourhood character and heritage values).
At its 13 December 2022 meeting, Council adopted an Urban Design Framework for the Monash Boulevards, which provides a strong vision for the major boulevards of Dandenong Road (Princes Highway) and Springvale Road to guide future residential development and improvements to the public realm.

The purpose of the framework is to:
- Build on the Monash Housing Strategy (2014) and set out a bold, compelling and shared vision to guide future decision-making on built form and residential development (within residential zones) along the 2 boulevards
- Consider and address the mix of different land uses and built form (including building heights) along the boulevards, as well as the interfaces with surrounding areas, such as sensitive residential and heritage places, and commercial/industrial areas
- Provide design guidelines that can be translated into policy and planning scheme provisions
- Consider improvements for the urban design of the public realm, including footpaths, cycle paths/lanes, street infrastructure, utilities and facilities, and street trees
- Inform future private and public investment that can be directed to these 2 boulevards
