Monash Waste Transfer Centre

The Recycling & Waste Centre (formerly Waste Transfer Station) is located at 380 Ferntree Gully Rd, Notting Hill. Phone: 9518 3555. 

It is closed on some public holidays including: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and before noon on Anzac Day.

For staff and customer safety, the Recycling & Waste Centre may temporarily close to the public during extreme weather conditions.

The Recycling & Waste Centre is open to all customers (trade and residential) from 7.30am-3pm every day, including Sundays.

We have very limited capacity to accept soil until further noticePlease call ahead of your visit to ensure collection is available. We will update this page when collection resumes.

We are now accepting soft plastics for recycling for Monash residents. Please follow the signs at the Centre for instructions to the collection point. 

Smaller drop-off points at Monash Civic Centre and Oakleigh Service Centre are also available to Monash residents. Due to the smaller capacity of the drop-off points, there is a limit of 1 bag of soft plastics per visit.

Free disposal

These items are transported to processors to be recycled:

  • Computers, laptops, printers, fax machines, televisions and computer monitors
  • Paper and cardboard (Visy) - we accept shredded paper, magazines and books (hard and soft cover). There is a yellow bin, next to the big blue cardboard drop-off bins, specifically allocated for shredded paper, magazines and books.
  • Soft plastics (APR Plastics) - read more about Monash Council's soft plastics recycling option
  • Scrap metal (e.g. hot water systems, metal roofing sheets, bicycles)
  • Commingled recycling (Visy) - same accepted items as household recycling bin
  • Batteries (household batteries and car batteries - up to 15)
  • Fluro tubes and bulbs/CFL globes (max. 5)
  • Printer cartridges (Cartridges for Planet Ark)
  • Mobile phones (Mobile Muster)
  • X-ray films
  • Engine oil (30 litres or less)
  • Paint (check accepted products Paintback)
  • Whitegoods (e.g. ovens, washing machines, clothes dryers, microwaves. Fees apply for fridges, freezers and air conditioners)
  • Cooking oil (up to 20 litres)
  • Polystyrene (made of white clean balls) – amounts up to ½ m3 are free
  • CDs, DVDs, cassettes and VHS video tapes
  • Clothing, shoes and handbags/accessories 

Paid disposal - fees and charges

We charge by volume for general rubbish, green waste, concrete and soil. Please remove any tarps so the window operator can view the load.

Volume = Length x Width x Height

For example: 6’ x 4’ trailer = 1.8 x 1.2 x 0.45 = 1m3 which equals 1m3 charged for disposal.

*Please present your valid pension, seniors, veterans affairs or health care card for the reduced disposal rate. This rate is not available to commercial customers.
