Changing your details, property ownership

To ensure our property records are accurate and up to date, you must tell us of any change of name, address or ownership as soon as possible.

When ownership of a property changes, the liability for payment of rates remains with the owner until a notice of acquisition is received.

Council must be notified in writing.

Failure to submit a notice within one month of a transfer may result in a substantial penalty.

If you buy, sell or transfer a property between related parties you must advise Council within 1 month by completing and returning the following form to mail@monash.vic.gov.au or mail to PO Box 1 GLEN WAVERLEY VIC 3150.

Change of Property Ownership – Purchase/Sale of Property

The purchaser’s conveyancer is required by Law to notify Council of a sale within 1 month of the settlement date.

Change of Property Ownership

For example, Transfer of title, Breakdown of Marriage, Family Court Order, Natural Love & Affection, Agreed Settlement, Transfer to Executor(s), Beneficiary of a Will.
Please complete a Notice of Acquisition(PDF, 637KB) and email to mail@monash.vic.gov.au - a copy of title must accompany the form.

Change of Address or Name

If you change address or change your name with Births, Deaths & Marriages, or change your company name with Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC), you must notify Council’s Rate Office in writing within 1 month. Or complete and return the following appropriate form to mail@monash.vic.gov.au or mail to PO Box 1 GLEN WAVERLEY VIC 3150.

  • Change of residential address, company registered office address, postal address, rate notice mailing address.
  • Change of name - a copy of change of name certificate must accompany the form.

If the property is in a personal name complete:

Deceased Estates

To notify Council of a Deceased Estate, please follow the steps below:

  • Email a copy of the section of the Will that states all executor/s names (Full copy of the Will/Probate is not required) to mail@monash.vic.gov.au
  • Please provide contact details for the Executor, and a mailing address for all future correspondence in your email
