We are set to re-open the Bogong Car Park after work was recently completed on an extension that has added four additional levels and taken the car park capacity to 1,037 (522 additional spaces). The car park includes a new building façade, featuring public art and specialist lighting; improved lifts; 10 motorcycle spaces; two EV charging bays, with the ability for this to be expanded in the future; smart parking assistance and wayfinding signage; and a PV (photovoltaic) solar system that will feed into powering the building lifts, lighting, EV charging bays and other services. Visit monash.vic.gov.au/bogong Mount Waverley Masterplan on track Construction of a new two-level sporting pavilion at Mount Waverley Reserve is nearing completion. Delivered as part of the Mount Waverley Reserve Masterplan, and assisted by $7m in Australian Government funding, the new pavilion will better accommodate the needs of existing users, including the Waverley Blues Football/Netball Club and Mount Waverley Cricket Club. The reserve masterplan has seen redevelopment of the sports field and lighting works completed as well as an upgraded playspace finished and open for the community to enjoy. Construction of new cricket practice facilities, featuring five synthetic cricket wickets and six turf strips, is almost completed as well as a maintenance shed to serve both the Council horticulture team and the cricket club. A new toilet block is set for completion in June while the pavilion works are expected to be finished by September. Visit shape.monash.vic.gov.au/mount-waverley-reserve-masterplan Get ready for a kick redevelopment is moving Footballers in Oakleigh can start lacing their boots with the new Jack Edwards Reserve Pavilion construction remaining on track for completion by September 2025. When finished, the game changing facility - home of the Oakleigh Cannons Football Club - will have a 500-seat undercover grandstand and National Premier League standard facilities that will help the club grow its programs including those for women and girls teams. Recently, new 500 lux sports lighting has been installed and is now operating. The new building concrete slab work has been completed, including the grandstand seating terrace, while all structural, pre-cast panels and roofing have been installed. The project budget of $14.73m includes an $8.2m commitment from Council, $4m from the Victorian Government, $2m from the Australian Government and $530,000 from the Oakleigh Cannons. The extended Bogong Car Park is due to open, providing 522 additional spaces. A new two level sporting pavilion at Mount Waverley Reserve is taking shape and a project close to my heart, the Jack Edwards Reserve Pavilion, is on track for completion by September this year. These are outstanding community facilities that will be well utilised by sporting clubs, participants and community. The process of determining projects, improvements to services and our budget spending for the year ahead is a long process and one that we as Councillors take very seriously. We listen to feedback from our community members including businesses and community groups in the lead up to considering where we will focus our spending. Hearing from our community through the extensive consultation we have undertaken for our Community Vision, Council Plan, Health and Wellbeing Plan, Rating and Revenue Plan and Asset Plan also guides us in our priorities over the next four years. We are now seeking your feedback on what we have proposed for these plans, after consulting with you in 2024. This is your chance to have a final say on what we are putting in these plans and whether we got it right. You can provide your feedback online or at one of our in-person information sessions. You can find more information in this issue of the Bulletin. As a business owner, I understand how challenging running a business can be. Ceremonies are organised by local Returned Services League (RSL) branches at Glen Waverley, Clayton and Oakleigh. All three branches will hold Dawn Services on Friday 25 April. The Glen Waverley branch will conduct its service at the original Glen Waverley Cenotaph, adjacent to Central Reserve on Springvale Road, commencing at 6am. This year, however, there will be no annual procession on the Sunday prior to Anzac Day, because of the clash with Easter and nearby construction work underway. Clayton Dawn Service (6am) will be at the Cenotaph in the RSL Memorial and Remembrance Space at the corner of Carinish Road and Kanooka Grove; while Oakleigh service (6.15am) will be at the Cenotaph at the corner of Drummond Street and Atherton Road. Last year saw the highest number of pedestrian fatalities on Melbourne metropolitan roads in 15 years, with 37 pedestrians losing their lives. Drivers, and bike and e-scooter riders can play a part in bringing this tragic number down by following the road rules, being more cautious and slowing down when pedestrians are present. Pedestrians should cross roads safely – using pedestrian and children crossings where available – and avoid distraction by putting down the phone and other devices. Stop, look, listen, think! Take the road safety pledge: visit roadsafetyweek.com.au or visit getinvolved.ambercommunity.org.au/event/shine-a-light Page 5 RECYCLING SAFETY TIP: no batteries or electronic items Never put batteries or electronic items in any kerbside bin or outdoor bin. My vision is to be a Councillor who leads with compassion, integrity and evidence-based decision making, while being accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of all residents. My background in law, education, housing reforms and preparing budgets equips me to make well-informed decisions. By the time you are reading this, I will have used this experience to work with my fellow Councillors to inform our 2025/26 Budget. With growing service delivery costs and demand, it is a challenging fiscal environment, but challenges create opportunities. Together, we will use this opportunity to review pressures, realign priorities, and maximise efficiency to ensure we deliver the best value. On page three, you can read about your opportunity to review and provide feedback on key strategies and plans that will guide Monash Council. It is essential that we get these strategies and plans right and I encourage you to share your views. It has been an exhilarating journey so far as the first Korean-Australian elected in Victoria, and I have enjoyed connecting with many of you. Some highlights of my first 100 days as a Councillor include: * Facilitating the Oakleigh-based Korean Society of Victoria first charitable donation to a prominent not-for-profit organisation in Monash -South East Volunteers. * Establishing quarterly meetings with the Victoria Police Monash Inspector to address concerns around road safety and crime. * Chairing the bi-monthly Monash Council Multicultural Advisory Committee, where we engage with our culturally and linguistically diverse communities. * Representing Council at our Museum of Australian Photography * Assisting local community groups in accessing our Community Grants Program. * Advocating for residents concerns around school traffic, tree management, and planning issues.
