Vaccinations prevent a range of serious and potentially fatal diseases, including parvovirus, distemper and kennel cough. Council recognises the importance of vaccinations, and we want to make essential healthcare accessible to all pet owners. In partnership with RSPCA Victoria, we are offering sessions for dogs to get vaccinated with the C5 vaccine by a registered vet for just $20. There are limited spots available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Wednesday 13 November and Wednesday 11 December 2024 Notting Hill Community Hall, 386 Ferntree Gully Road, Notting Hill Visit www.monash.vic.gov.au/dog-vaccination FREE Cat Safety Workshop Join us at our upcoming Keeping Cats Safe Workshop with RSPCA Victoria on Tuesday 12 November, 7pm at Mount Waverley Community Centre to learn how to keep your cat safe and happy at home. The session will be delivered by Animal Behaviourist, Naomi Thomson, who specialises in cats, and will explore why it's important to keep your cat on your property, options for enriching indoor spaces and outdoor cat enclosures to keep cats active and entertained. Encouraging your cat to stay on your property helps to keep cats safe from injury, prevents the spread of diseases like feline AIDS, and reduces their impact on our local environment. This is a free event. Book at www.monash.vic.gov.au/cat-safe-workshop Council Elections this October Council elections are underway across Victoria. Two programs our team are currently focused on are: * Influenza (the flu) vaccines. Influenza is different to the common cold as it is more severe, lasts longer and can lead to serious complications. Flu vaccines are available year-round and not limited to the winter months, you can get protected at any time. * The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine protects you against nine of the most common types of HPV that are a very common virus spread through skin-to-skin contact. Anyone aged between 12 and 25 can access this free vaccination from Council. You can learn more about our vaccination program and access to these and other vaccines at www.monash.vic.gov.au/immunisation Reusable Nappies: Your questions answered Disposable nappies can cost a whopping $3,600 per child by the time they reach the age of two-and a half. Switching to reusables can save over $2,000 per child during that time. Using just one reusable nappy can stop 365 nappies a year going to landfill, benefit the household budget and have health benefits by avoiding the chemicals found in disposable nappies. We’re hosting a community workshop at Monash Civic Centre in Glen Waverley on Friday 15 November at 10am to answer all your questions and help parents and carers understand how to use reusable nappies. Free event. Bookings at www.monash.vic.gov.au/reusable-nappies Page 7 SAVE THE DATE Carols by Candelight Saturday 7 December Join us at Jells Park for this year’s Carols by Candlelight. We have a range of affordable, high-quality facilities available for hire in Monash and, whether you're planning a lunch, dinner, private function, or need space for a dance studio or multipurpose indoor sports, we have a venue to suit your needs. To help you find the most suitable Council-managed hall, we’ve introduced 3D virtual tours of many of our venues, allowing you to explore our facilities from the comfort of your device. There are 3D virtual tours of 40 of our halls and venues, showcasing the facilities and helping to streamline the decision-making process for both the hirer and the venue staff. Potential hirers can explore venues from anywhere at any time, eliminating the need for an in-person visit. The virtual tours provide a realistic and immersive experience, allowing you to get a true sense of the space, layout and ambiance of the hall you are interested in, which can be far more informative than static photographs alone. By ‘walking through’ a virtual venue, you can make more confident decisions about whether the space meets your needs before committing to a booking. To make an enquiry, see a map and list of available venues or view our new 3D Virtual Tours: www.monash.vic.gov.au/halls-for-hire Page 8 Whats on in Monash FAS Awards Art Exhibition opens at Civic Centre We have partnered with Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre to deliver the 2024 For Arts' Sake (FAS) Awards.
