Detox Your Home 2025: Monash Operations Centre

Detox Your Home is a safe, free and easy-to-use service to dispose of highly toxic, unwanted household chemicals such as solvents, poisons and cleaning products.

The collected items are recovered and diverted from landfill.

Registration is essential. Sustainability Victoria is running a reduced number of Detox Your Home events this year, so register early before sessions book out. You can also book into other Detox Your Home events held in Victoria.

Detox Your Home events are drive-through (no walk-ins) and contactless.

Monash Recycling & Waste Centre is also open on the day. Why not save a trip and bring some items in for recycling too? Only pack items accepted at either Detox Your Home or the recycling centre.

Items accepted at Detox Your Home

Items that can be dropped off include:

weed killers, fertiliser
cleaning products, bleach
nail polish remover
insect sprays, pesticides
pool chemicals, including liquid pool chlorine and pool salts
Turpentine, thinners and paint strippers

Items NOT accepted at Detox Your Home

This event cannot accept certain items, including:

paint
fluorescent lights
cooking oil
fire extinguishers
batteries
asbestos.

Please take paint, fluorescent lights, cooking oil (up to 20L) and batteries to the Recycling & Waste Centre.

Asbestos is NOT accepted at the Recycling and Waste Centre.

Before the event

The maximum acceptable weight or size for a single container is 20 kilograms or 20 litres.
We can't decant so bring items in disposable, clearly labelled containers.
If you don’t know what’s inside a container, label it as ‘unknown’.

Detox Your Home events are staffed by expert chemists who understand how to safely manage toxic household chemicals. Chemicals are safely stored during the event then transported to a licensed processing facility at the end of each event.

This event is delivered by Sustainability Victoria in collaboration with Monash Council.
