Monash Gardens for Wildlife program
Join our Gardens for Wildlife program and we’ll help you to create an indigenous garden in your own property.
By creating a habitat garden, you'll be increasing biodiversity which is good for the environment and our local wildlife.
Council conducts free Gardens for Wildlife workshops run by our own bush crew, so you can learn more about plant selection, weeds, maintenance, etc. If you would like to be notified of the next workshop or have any questions please email sustainability@monash.vic.gov.au

The Monash Gardens for Wildlife booklet:
- Includes photos of native plants that will prosper as they are suited to the local climate and soils. These plants will also attract (and provide food and shelter for) native wildlife, including birds, bees and frogs.
- Identifies weeds so that people can avoid planting them or consider removing them.
You will be able to find out how to create a thriving native garden in this FREE booklet, produced by Council.

Council produced this booklet with the aim of promoting biodiversity. Having a variety of plant and animal life in local gardens will help ensure the survival of species that are struggling with the impacts of urbanisation.

Garden Guides
Once you have joined the Gardens for Wildlife program, you are eligible to receive a free visit to your garden by one of our volunteer garden guides. Garden Guides are fellow residents who have a love for gardens and increasing indigenous plantings and other features to support local native wildlife.
We are always on the lookout for more Garden Guides to join the program; we encourage you to contact us to find out more if you think this is of interest to you. The below video explains more about the garden visits and what being a Garden Guide is all about.
