Annual hard waste collection

Monash Council provides eligible residential properties a hard waste collection annually.

The next ANNUAL collection will run from 14 July to 5 September 2025

Hard waste collections are for eligible residential properties only.

Residents in apartment buildings, aged care or other multi-unit dwellings may not be eligible. Please check with your building's facility manager or body corporate before putting items out for collection.

Find your hard waste collection date

Enter your address and click "Search" to find the week your annual hard waste collection starts. 

If you do not see a date, your property may not be eligible. Please contact your facility manager or Council to check your eligibility. 

Preparing your hard waste

To keep our streets clean, only place items 2 days before your area's start date. Make sure all items are out for collection by 6am of your start date.

Check what's accepted and what's not

If your property is eligible, you will receive a pamphlet in your mailbox 2 weeks before your collection date.

Check what can and can't go in hard waste

How much to put out

There is a limit of 4m3 (for example 1m wide x 4m long x 1m high).

For safety, each item must be:

  • less than 1.5m long
  • less than 1m high
  • able to be safely lifted by 2 people (50kg).

How to sort items

Separate items in 5 stacks:

Stack 1: General hard waste

  • Toys
  • Carpet or linoleum. Rolled and tied, 2 rolls only
  • Window glass, mirrors, ceramics. Securely wrapped, marked 'glass' or 'ceramics'
  • Hard household furniture (tables, chairs, etc.)
  • Doors. 2 only
  • Timber. No more than 12 pieces, no longer than 1.5m

Stack 2: Metals

  • Washing machines
  • Microwaves
  • Irons
  • Pots, pans
  • Lawn mowers. Remove oil/fuel
  • Hot water units
  • Scrap metal

Stack 3: Mattresses and soft furniture

  • Mattresses and bed bases. 2 items only
  • Soft furniture

Stack 4: Fridges and electronic items (remove batteries)

  • Fridges (remove doors)
  • Computers and printers
  • Televisions
  • Electrical items with a plug or cord. Remove all batteries and take to battery recycling drop off point.

Stack 5: Bundled green waste

All branches and logs must be bundled and tied with natural twine

  • Small logs
  • Garden branches
  • Small tree stumps (max 30kg/30cm diameter)

These stacks may be collected by different trucks on different days during the week. 

Bundle branches and small logs together with natural twine. 

For safety, remove batteries from electronic items and take to a battery recycling drop off point instead. Batteries can catch fire in the collection truck.

No household rubbish  Put in your landfill bin or take to Monash Recycling and Waste Centre*

Uncollected items will be left behind, with a notice in the mailbox. Please remove these within 24 hours.

Reduce your hard waste

Before putting out items consider if they can be repaired, sold or donated.

Council offers a range of free sustainability events for the community such as our repair cafés and The Great Clothing Exchange.

Additional hard waste collection

You can also book an additional hard waste collection for a week that suits you. This collection is an extra service to your annual hard waste collection. Costs apply and payment is required at the time of booking.
