Dumped rubbish, soil and organic waste

Dumping rubbish on public or private land - including roadsides, bushland, reserves and parks – without authorisation is illegal.

Please note: We can only help with dumped rubbish on council-owned land.

Property owners are responsible for dumped rubbish on private land. If the rubbish is on land that belongs to another authority, they are responsible for removing it. These include:

For rubbish dumped in residential streets, we may tape it and leave a note asking for nearby property owners to help identify where it came from, or for the owner to remove and dispose of it correctly.

Report online

We will look into reports of dumped rubbish within 24 hours of receiving a report, during business hours.

Step 1.Dumped rubbish

When reporting dumped rubbish, we will ask you for:

  • The location of the dumped waste (Property Search screen)
  • Enter the location address or the nearest address. You will be able to add more information in the ‘further information’ field (next screen)
  • What item(s) have been dumped 
  • If you saw someone dumping it, and any identifying details (for example, vehicle registration or type)
  • Photos of the dumped rubbish, if you have any

Report litter from vehicles

You can make litter reports to EPA online using the EPA web form.

To make a report, you will need:

  • Vehicle details (for example, registration, model and make) and the location where the littering took place
  • Any other observations regarding the incident (for example, date and time)
  • Willingness to attend court as a witness if required (only 2 per cent of reports end up going to court).

How can I dispose of my hard rubbish?

To help you get rid of rubbish that cannot go in kerbside bins, a FREE, annual hard waste collection takes place typically between July and September. You can also book an extra hard rubbish collection at any time during the year (fees apply).
