Cycling, bike trails, repair stations and bike path upgrades

Monash Bike Users Group

Monash Council maintains many bike tracks in the region, so cyclists have no shortage of paths to ride.

Bike repair stations

We have installed a new bike repair station at the Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Glen Waverley.

Bike repair stations support sustainable transport options in Monash.

The station includes a bike pump and tools, as well as a QR code for further information on how the tools are used and how to make simple repairs.

You can find more repair stations at:

Bike path upgrades

Council has increased spending on bike path upgrades in recent years. The increased funding responds to feedback from residents who have said Monash needs better bike paths.

The focus continues to be on upgrading existing paths to meet modern standards. Narrow paths are being replaced with 3m-wide concrete paths, improving safety and comfort for cyclists and walkers.

Current projects

  • Scotchmans Creek Trail widening – Cole Crescent to Warrigal Road, Chadstone (design only – construction is subject to future funding)
  • Scotchmans Creek Trail widening – Blackburn Road to Waverley Road, Glen Waverley (design only – construction is subject to future funding)
  • Waverley Rail Trail shared path – Jordanville Station to Mount Waverley Station (design only – construction is subject to future funding)
  • Monash Freeway trail upgrade – Warrigal Road to Huntingdale Road (design only – construction is subject to future funding)
  • Scotchmans Creek Trail – Settler Court, Glen Waverley to Jells Road, Wheelers Hill (feasibility study)

Completed projects

The following upgrades have been completed on local paths over the past few years:

  • Scotchmans Creek shared path upgrade to a 3m-wide concrete path between Kevin Street and Huntingdale Road, with a new bicycle repair station.
  • Gardiners Creek Trail shared path upgrade to a 3m-wide concrete path between Highbury and High Street roads, Ashwood/Burwood
  • 340m extension of the off-road cyclist/pedestrian path along Blackburn Rd, Clayton, from Duerdin St to Normanby Rd (partnership funding between Council and Monash University)
  • An upgraded section of path along a section of Dandenong Creek Trail (between Oliver Crt and Lim Crt, Mulgrave) opened in January 2017.
  • An upgraded 3m-wide path along a 750m stretch of the Scotchmans Creek Trail in Mount Waverley (between the Stephensons Road overpass and Forster Road) opened in April 2017.
  • Upgrading a section of the Dandenong Creek Trail, between Royal Oak Court and along the rear of Oliver Court (Mulgrave)
  • Upgrading sections of the Scotchmans Creek Trail, between Warrigal Road and Drummond Street (Chadstone) and Stamford and Huntingdale roads (Oakleigh)
  • Filling in a 'missing link' in the Waverley Rail Trail, along Railway Parade South (between Binalong and Beatrice avenues, Chadstone)
  • Creating a 3m-wide concrete shared path where there had been a 'goat track' along a 690m stretch of Blackburn Road in Clayton, from Wellington Road to Duerdin Street. Monash University contributed $70,000 towards this $180,000 project, as the path will also benefit their students
