Muniak Nangarna
Commissioned by MPAC in partnership with the William Cooper Institute, Yorta Yorta custodian Neil Morris, AKA DRMNGNOW / Minyerra a multitalented creative as a story teller through story and sound presents sound installation Muniak Nangarna (meaning “Future Thought”).
This new work expressed through ethereal soundscapes, song and spoken word, provides a provocative abstract exploration evoked by resilience and adversity of early Indigenous activism, through to cultural rejuvenation and ongoing advocacy driven by Muniak Nangarna and visions for sovereignty.
It is deeply influenced by Neils lens as a Yorta Yorta descendent with bloodline connections to many Koorie Tribes of Victoria, including connections to historical figures within the early Victorian and National Indigenous Rights movements.
Neil will launch Muniak Nangarna at a special performance on Tuesday evening where he will accompany the recorded sound installation with live vocals and instrumentation. From Wednesday to Friday the installation will be open to the public to drop in any time between 11am and 4pm.
