Detox Your Home: Monash Recycling and Waste Centre

Detox Your Home is a safe, free and easy-to-use service to dispose of highly toxic, unwanted household chemicals such as solvents, poisons and cleaning products. 

The collected items are recovered and diverted from landfill.

Registration is essential. Detox Your Home events are drive-through (no walk-ins) and contactless.

Monash Recycling & Waste Centre is also open on the day. Why not save a trip and bring some items in for recycling too? Make sure to check the items you bring in can be accepted at either Detox Your Home or the recycling centre.

Items accepted at Detox Your Home

Items that can be dropped off include:

• weed killers
• cleaning products
• cosmetics
• cooking oil
• fire extinguishers.

Items not accepted at Detox Your Home

This event cannot accept certain items, including:

• paint
• fluorescent lights
• batteries.

Please take paint, fluorescent lights and batteries to the Monash Recycling & Waste Centre.

Prepare your items

• The maximum acceptable weight or size for a single container is 20 kilograms or 20 litres.
• We can't decant so bring items in disposable, clearly labelled containers.
• If you don’t know what’s inside a container, label it as ‘unknown’.

Detox Your Home events are staffed by expert chemists who understand how to safely manage toxic household chemicals. Chemicals are safely stored during the event then transported to a licensed processing facility at the end of each event. 

This event is delivered by Sustainability Victoria in collaboration with Monash Council.
