Clyde Chabot Trilogy
Friday 16 August - Performance in ENGLISH
Saturday 17 August - Performance in FRENCH
Clyde Chabot is a unique theatre maker. An author, artistic director and performer, she has established herself as a leader in the creation of ‘autofiction’. Her work has been widely performed in her native France as well as across the world from the US to Europe and Asia.
I write from the real. Without really deciding it, from chance, from life’s adventures, sudden realisations, existential explosions. I question facets of the reality of my life that can be related to the universal of everyone. - C. Chabot.
In this rare appearance in Australia, she presents three of her works in collaboration with students from Monash University’s Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance.
The trilogy will include a light meal following SICILIA, with drinks available to purchase. Friday 16th August, the performance will be in English. Saturday 17th August: in French. With an audience of only 50 per night, don’t miss out on this rare encounter.
SICILIA
In SICILIA, Clyde tells the history of migration in her family, who left Sicily at the end of the 19th century for the United States and Tunisia then France. She performs at a large table with the audience as her family. She shares a bit of Pecorino Pepato, the only Sicilian relic that has passed through generations. She has performed this show more than 170 times in France and abroad.
In Melbourne, the show will be recreated with Rosa Voto, founder of the Melbourne School of Tarantella who will dance at key moments of the show accompanied by student musicians.
A Soldier’s Daughter
My father used to be a soldier. Here I am humorously questioning how this may have affected my personality. The text searches more widely the world of the army, apparently so far from the theatre, its social, familiar and intimate dimension. – C. Chabot.
Clyde will perform this show with student musicians.
CHICAGO-reconstitution
CHICAGO-reconstitution is the story of the premature birth of Clyde Chabot’s daughter, in the United States in 2002. The medical world, the worries, the joys and the potentials associated with the birth of this fragile being suddenly arise in a country that is not theirs. 16 years later the child discovers her native land and looks at what constitutes her. Clyde presents this as an immersive performance, in the manner of a community meeting.
The show will be recreated in Australia with a chorus of students performing the role of the American child. Clyde Chabot’s daughter herself will make a live virtual appearance.
