Cairo Club Orchestra with Nichaud Fitzgibbon: Live at The Count's

ArtsHub_Cairo
Don’t miss Peter Milley and the famous Cairo Club Orchestra live at The Count’s as they reanimate the Jazz Age soundtrack of the prohibition era.

For more than three decades, Cairo Club Orchestra has showcased Melbourne’s highest calibre musicians who play with the sort of precision and cohesiveness that is developed through many years of performing together. Their innate sense of swing and hot solos played on period instruments convey an infectious sense of joy and fun as they romp their way through timeless gangster jazz, and the hot rhythm dance music of the flappers.

Band leader, trumpeter, and music historian, Peter Milley, has led the famous Cairo Club Orchestra for over thirty years. Combined with his vast library of original Jazz Age band arrangements is Peter’s unique wit and detailed historical knowledge of the sound, repertoire, and performance nuances of the Jazz era.

The Cairo Club Orchestra lives fully in the present day. The band members have smartphones and Facebook pages. But their bright spirited Music takes us back to the glory days of the 1920’s and 1930’s. To smoky Nightclubs where slim women danced all night with handsome young men. Their music – elegant, hot, raucous, and funky – is no dead museum of days gone by. Rather, it is a smooth running time machine that takes us back to a world where people knew how to live fully and exuberantly. The spirits of Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, and a thousand other musicians are smiling because of Peter Milley and his swinging friends who embody happiness in swingtime. – Michael Steinman, Jazz Lives
