Intergenerational Greek Cooking

Does Greek food have the power to bring generations together?

Fronditha Care, a non-profit aged care organisation in Melbourne, and NUGAS, the National Union of Greek Australian Students, say yes!

During lockdown, NUGAS initiated "Sintagi Sundays”, an intergenerational initiative where members cook Greek traditional dishes with their older Greek relatives. The exchanges were filmed for Fronditha Care's aged-care facilities for residents to watch.

Fronditha Care's community services clients Stamatia Zaven and Stavroula Mitiris love to prepare Greek traditional meals and talk about their cultural heritage and life experience.

NUGAS’ Alice Papadopoulos and Katherine Hatzis are third-generation Greek-Australians who have been brought up eating and cooking Greek food.

Together they combine their knowledge and palettes to prepare a tasty Greek dish to ensure their recipe is passed on through the generations.

Watch this delightful video and take notes. The discussion at the end between the two generations reminds us of the importance of preserving culture and tradition. You won't be disappointed!

**At the time of filming, COVID restrictions required that the cooking demonstration and interaction between the two groups be done remotely**
