Located at the multi-sport courts at Carlson Reserve in Clayton, 'Side by Side' is created by Melbourne artist duo Creature Creature (Chanel Tang and Ambrose Rehorek).
Artist statement
'Our vibrant mural resonates with the spirit of community, represented by the adorable local Grey Fantails nestling among orange trees and native flora, and all vividly brought to life through our signature ornamental Asian aesthetic. This seamless fusion of Australian and Chinese cultural elements evokes themes such as prosperity, the enduring warmth of family, the timeless beauty of nature, and the profound depth of heritage.'

About the artist
Creature Creature is an artist duo hailing from Melbourne, comprising Chanel Tang and Ambrose Rehorek.
With a collaborative art practice that spans across exhibiting art, murals, street art, design, and illustration, they have established themselves as a unique voice in the artistic landscape.
Incorporating their Chinese and Czech backgrounds, Creature Creature's art is a convergence of Asian aesthetics and style with a Western perspective, resulting in works brimming with contrast and fluidity.
Their work embodies the concept of duality and the sum of a whole, emphasising messages of togetherness, states of balance, yin and yang. Through their partnership, they aim to preserve diversity and create artistic expressions that are complex, layered, and interconnected, celebrating the beauty of unity.
Community consultation
Almost 200 community members voted for the mural’s concept design in May 2024 with 'Side by Side' emerging as the favoured design. The result is a unique visual representation of the stories and values that make Monash such a vibrant and diverse place to live, work and play.
