About the exhibition

Located in Oakleigh on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Land, the Nanyubak mural celebrates First Nations culture and fosters a sense of community.

Named after a Yorta Yorta word meaning 'to dream the future', Nanyubak depicts the lines of connection that bind people to the land and to each other.

The mural marked a significant milestone as the first large-scale mural solely designed and installed by a First Nations artist in the City of Monash.

Bunjil the Eagle and Waa the Crow feature prominently, while the teal thread of the local Scotchmans Creek runs throughout. Gum leaves feature in the work, welcoming people to the lands of the Traditional Owners, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People.

With photographs by Clinton Plowman of Flash Studios, this exhibition traces the mural's installation and unveiling in early 2024, documenting Day's creative process.
