Council trees are all trees located on land owned or managed by Monash Council. This includes all trees in parks and gardens, reserves, bushland, and on streets and nature strips. Council manages about 90,000 street trees and 300,000 trees in parks, gardens and bushland reserves. Green spaces provide natural cooling, reduce air pollution, improve soil health and water drainage, and create habitat for native wildlife.
Nature strips are areas of public land between the property boundary and the kerb, excluding public pavement.
Please note that Council does not maintain trees on private property. For tree removal or tree works within the Vegetation Protection Overlay (VPO), please visit: Vegetation Protection Overlay.
Council undertakes regular inspections and works to maintain its trees in good health and condition, however if you would like to report an issue please submit your request.
Council is responsible for all formative and maintenance pruning. Residents and landowners are not permitted to prune Council trees.
Read guidelines and recommended plants for nature strips. Join the Nature Strip Planting Project, apply for a permit and once approved, receive free seedlings and resources to begin planting.
Information on Council's street tree planting, tree establishment, and tips on how you can care for street trees.
You can request for a tree to be planted on the nature strip in front of your property.

Trees cool our neighbourhoods, clean our air, make our streets walkable and protect Monash’s cherished garden character - and we need your help to protect them.
