Golden Tales Short Story Competition

To celebrate Grandparents Day on 27 October 2024, we’re inviting children and young people ages 4-14 in Monash to tell us all about a grandparent or special older person in their life!

Monash community members ages 65+ can also submit a short story or poem about a special younger person in their life, whether it’s a grandchild, grand-niece, grand-nephew or someone else who has touched your heart.

What does that special person mean to you? Let us know in words (or pictures) and go into the draw to receive a $100 gift card and publication of your work online.

Competition closes on Monday 7 October 2024.

Submissions can be a short story, a poem or a drawing (for our littlest participants ages 4-6).

Age categories and eligibility

• Ages 4-6: drawing submission (ask an adult to write a short description).
• Ages 7-11: short story or poem (up to 200 words).
• Ages 12-14: short story or poem (up to 200 words).
• Older adults aged 65+: short story or poem (up to 400 words).

Entries must be from children, students and older adults who live, work and/or study in the City of Monash. Read the full terms and conditions.

• Entrants can submit 1 entry per form. While you may enter the competition more than once, you cannot win more than 1 prize.
• Entrants must submit their written piece or drawing via the online portal or in person. 
• Entries must be received no later than Monday 7 October 2024 (submissions after this date will not be accepted).

Prizes

Winners of each category will receive a $100 Visa gift card and publication on Monash Council's website and social media platforms, including the name of the entrant and their special person. 

All child entrants will receive a certificate.
