National Sorry Day is an annual day of commemoration and remembrance of those who have been impacted by government policies of forcible removal.

27 May, 1967 Referendum

The 1967 Referendum gave the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Prior to this, First Nations people did not have the same rights as other Australians under the Australian Constitution.

27 May - 3 June, Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is celebrated each year between 27 May and 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey: the anniversaries of the successful referendum and High Court Mabo decision.

On this day in 1992, The High Court of Australia delivered its landmark Mabo decision which legally recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a special relationship to the land.
