We at Goodstart Clayton strongly believe, "The family is a protective shield in which a child experiences peace and happiness", and we want to be a part of every child's extended family. At Clayton, we aim to support families' current and emerging needs by ensuring all children receive quality care and education. Goodstart Early Learning is a 65-place long day-care nestled in Clayton. Our service has been operating within the community for over 19 years. Clayton is in the southeast of Melbourne's central business district within the City of Monash Council. According to the 2016 census, Clayton is considered one of Australia's most diverse suburbs out of 8350 suburbs, based on its population's birthplaces. Our Centre is situated in a residential area close to the train station, Monash hospital, Monash University, and other public amenities. It is well known for local and international businesses.

Our centre philosophy is based on the principle on the African proverb,” It takes a village to raise a child” We live in a fast paced, instant information and pressure packed world, parents are ready to accept any partnership or support necessary to prepare our children for tomorrow. As children grow and develop, connections to the outside world help them to find their place in the world, to develop understandings of how society works, and to recognise and understand the shared values that underpin our society. According to Urie Bronfenbrenner “A child’s inherent qualities and his/ her environment interact to influence how he will grow and develop.”

To bring out the best in our centre and for our children we believe in turning differences into opportunities. We believe that this area is extremely important and a strong point of our service, as supporting children and families from diverse cultures is the cornerstone of why we are here. We believe in acknowledging that every child and every family is different, and we celebrate diversity and inclusion in a respectful manner. We value and understand each family’s tradition, heritage, customs, child rearing belief and we try to embed them into our centre practices. We promote embedding diversity through our professional behaviour and role modelling behaviours like respect, empathy and understanding towards our community of learners.

We are committed to supporting every child’s needs, talents, interests and vulnerability through our inclusive partnerships with our community of learners. We support all our families with their individual and changing circumstances and assisting them in their parenting role. We are always looking at innovative support and leading change to support our families. Goodstart Clayton’s primary purpose is to offer children and families early learning environments that contribute to best possible start for success in school and in life. We supports children’s social -emotional and physical well-being , thinking skills and language and communication through our learning rich environment and curriculum.

Our team shows, in practice, that children are central to everything we do, and families are our primary partners. We listen and respond to family needs and include them in decision making about their child’s education and care. We support them in sharing the centre learning environment and its relevance and connection to the home learning environment.
