Council has updated its guidelines for stallholders and speakers at Council presented festivals and events following consultation with the Monash community.
The guidelines were adopted by Council at the 30 October 2018 Council meeting.
These revised guidelines are a modification of the Guidelines for Stallholders and Speakers at Monash Council Presented Events and Festivals that are currently in use as part of the application process for festivals and events.
Consultation with the Monash community in July and August elicited 22 responses with the results indicating there is support for the presence of political stalls at festivals and events. There was also positive support for stallholders wanting to promote and disseminate information about their relevant surveys.
Council’s current position on minimising giveaways was reinforced. Monash Council banned balloons from its festival program more than 10 years ago and remians committed to this practice and the escalation of sustainable environmental practice at all its events.

Background
Council was updating its guidelines for stallholders and speakers at Monash events and festivals.
As part of this process, Council sought feedback (until 29 August 2018) from the community and from stallholders who took part in our festival and events in 2017 to inform our future position on the participation of sitting member politicians and political parties in the upcoming events and festivals program.
Council presents and supports a number of events each year.
Some of the festivals Council presents and supports are:
- Carols by Candlelight
- Ashwood/Chadstone Family Fun Day
- Clayton Festival
- Chinese New Year
- Glendi
- Live at Warrawee
A Special Meeting of Monash Council was called to clarify Council’s guidelines for stallholders and speakers at Monash festivals and events.
