Draft Monash Tennis Plan

The Plan was adopted at the 25 May 2021 Council meeting.

Objectives:

Provide clear guidance on Council and club responsibilities for investment into tennis facilities
Establish investment priorities for community funded tennis infrastructure
Ensure that tennis is a sport that is available and accessible for the whole Monash community to enjoy
Ensure that Monash tennis venues are places that support active participation and community health and wellbeing

The draft Monash Tennis Plan has been developed as the result of an extensive consultations and work with the tennis clubs in Monash to strategically address key issues for this sport.

The consultative and evidence based approach adopted throughout this process has guided the development of the draft plan, which includes Guiding Principles and Key Actions to ensure a vibrant and sustainable future for tennis in Monash.

Council sought community feedback on this Plan until Friday 30 October 2020.

All submissions and comments will be considered before a final Monash Tennis Plan will be presented to Council for consideration and endorsement.

Background

The Tennis In Monash Discussion Paper was developed following the Monash Tennis Forum held with clubs and Tennis Victoria on 27 February 2019. This Discussion Paper considers issues and opportunities as identified by clubs, Tennis Victoria and Council officers at the forum.

There are 16 tennis clubs in Monash that operate under a lease arrangement with Council. In 2018, Council collected data in relation to the condition of tennis facilities and club memberships and participation. Key findings from this process are presented in the paper, as well as a series of discussion questions that are now open for submissions.
