Review of the Multicultural Action Plan
Monash Council is committed to embracing the cultural diversity of our community and harnessing the benefits of this diversity.
We wish to ensure that all members of our community have access to services, programs, resources and importantly, feel welcome to participate in decision-making processes.
Council is also committed to supporting and working for a strong, healthy and inclusive community, free of discrimination or disadvantage.
Council is in the process of developing a new Multicultural Action Plan for 2017-2021. The new plan will identify issues and priorities for our culturally and linguistically diverse communities. It will include specific actions to respond to needs and aim for more equitable outcomes for individuals, families and communities.
To achieve this, Council is looking to gain insight into issues of importance to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. We are also seeking to understand how to be more effective in provision of services and resources, most particularly how well we communicate and engage with our culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Council’s current Multicultural Action Plan 2013-2017 is focused on:
- Access, Communication and Engagement: Ensuring Council services and programs are relevant and responsive to the needs of the culturally diverse Monash community
- Partnerships and Community Capacity Building: Ensuring Council promotes and seeks partnerships to build strong and empowered communities
- Leadership and Advocacy: Ensuring Council meets community needs and aspirations through strong and influential leadership and advocacy
- Recognition and Celebration: Ensuring Council actively supports and promotes cultural diversity and the benefits to all our community
- Organisational Development: Ensuring Council has a highly responsive and culturally competent workforce
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Ensuring Council is committed to achieving the best outcomes for its community
