Review of the Monash Road Management Plan
Council manages and maintains all public local road infrastructure and is required by Victorian State Law to set standards for the repair and condition of roads, balancing:
- Good practice
- Community expectations
- Costs of maintenance and reconstruction.
Main roads and freeways are the responsibility of VicRoads.
The Monash Road Management Plan is a public document. It sets out the standards that Monash Council has established for our road infrastructure, with reviews every four years.
The Plan includes different categories of roads and footpaths based on usage and importance. Each category has distinct inspection cycles and repair or reconstruction standards.
Here is the current Monash Road Management Plan which is now being reviewed.
Community feedback will influence the standards we set in our Road Management Plan including:
- Conditions of surfaces on local roads (i.e. is the standard excellent or do you notice roads that are rough, cracked or potholed?)
- Maintenance and the condition of our footpaths, kerbing, channels or signage
- The condition of our footpaths in high pedestrian areas, such as around main shopping centres.
