Review of the Monash Domestic Animal Management Plan

Councils are required under Victorian law to have a Domestic Animal Management Plan.

The Plan outlines the programs, services and strategies that Council will undertake to address a range of animal management and welfare matters.

Such matters include:

  • Minimising the potential for dogs and cats to create a nuisance
  • Minimising risks of attacks by dogs, including identifying all dangerous dogs, menacing dogs and restricted breed dogs within the municipality
  • Encouraging responsible ownership of dogs and cats
  • Ensuring all cats and dogs are registered with Council, and that people comply with animal laws and controls
  • Addressing any over-population (e.g. stray cats) which can lead to high euthanasia rates
  • Evaluating whether Council’s animal control services are adequate

Here is Council’s current Domestic Animal Management Plan.

The Domestic Animal Management Plan 2017-2021 was adopted by Council at its October 2017 meeting.
