Review of the Disability Action Plan
Council is reviewing its 2013-2017 Disability Action Plan. This review, and development of our new plan, is in line with the legislative requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1992.
Our new Disability Action Plan will guide Council in the planning, advocacy and engagement of people with a disability, their families and carers over the coming four years.
Specific actions, addressing a number of key priority areas, will be identified in consultation with Council’s Disability Advisory Committee, key community stakeholders and service providers. In this way, Council hopes to capture the true needs and priorities of people with a disability, their families and carers.
Our current Plan set the following aims:
- Access, Services and Participation: Both Council services and local support services are accessible and responsive to the needs of people with a disability, their families and carers
- Employment: People with a disability have greater employment opportunities within Council
- Leadership, Advocacy and Communication: Council plays a strong leadership role in advocating about issues important to people with a disability
- The Built Environment: All members of the community have access to the built environment including Council facilities, footpaths, parks and gardens
- Organisational Development: Council staff have awareness and understanding of access and inclusion issues
- Monitoring and Implementation: Council has in place appropriate review and reporting mechanisms
