Monash Sport & Recreation Strategy

The purpose of Council’s Sport & Recreation Strategy is to enhance the level of physical activity within our community, therefore improving the overall health and wellbeing of Monash residents.

Our research aims to identify the priorities of Monash residents in relation to their sport and recreation needs, and provide guidance to Council for planning and resourcing sport and recreational activities over the next 10 years.

In addition to community consultation, we will use the most up to date evidence and examples of Best Practice to understand and respond to:

  • Barriers to people's participation in sport and recreation and how to address these
  • Participation trends in sporting activities, to influence our planning for sport and recreation in Monash
  • Equity in the distribution of Council resourcing of sports and recreation. Council wants to ensure its resources are allocated evenly across the municipality and are inclusive of women and girls, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people of all abilities, and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community
  • Capital infrastructure priorities relating to sport and recreation in Monash
  • Council’s partners in delivering sport and recreation services and working together to maximise outcomes for the Monash community
  • Partners who may assist with enhancing levels of physical activity in the community and ways to advance these opportunities
  • Targets for Council’s advocacy about increasing physical activity and the outcomes resulting from participation in sports and recreation
  • Best Practice in management of sport and recreation programs and Council facilities
  • Available technologies that might better support the achievement of our strategic priorities and outcomes.
