Vaccination for expecting mums and new parents
Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccination
Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccination* is free for all pregnant women from 20 weeks gestation.
Funding from the Victorian Government for the whooping cough vaccination for partners of pregnant women and guardians of infants under 6 months ceased on 30 June 2023.
The vaccine can still be administered at our immunisation sessions and purchased at a cost of $54 per dose.
Who is eligible to receive the free vaccine?
- children aged 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 18 months and 4 years
- adolescents aged 12-13 years through school-based vaccination programs
- pregnant women (between 20-32 weeks).
* Boostrix - diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough)
RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus)
Access to this vaccine requires an adult to hold a Medicare card.
From February 2025, pregnant women from 28 to 36 weeks of pregnancy can access a single dose of RSV maternal vaccine** under the National Immunisation Program (NIP).
The RSV vaccine protects the newborn baby from severe RSV in the first 6 months of life through the passing of antibodies from the mother to the foetus during pregnancy.
A small administrative fee will be applied.
