2023 Volunteer of the Year

Sandra Fribence

Sandra is an active, vibrant 86-year-old volunteer. In her 26 years of volunteering at the MS Community Op Shop in Glen Waverley, she made many friends, from the volunteers she worked with to the customers and community she served.

She was always the first to offer assistance to help keep the shop running – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic – and she encouraged and mentored younger volunteers. She was often the first to arrive and the last to leave.

From helping the homeless, who were often found sleeping in the shop doorway, by providing blankets, clothing and food, to being the best volunteer most have encountered, Sandra is loved and valued by all that come into her orbit.

Unfortunately, the MS shop closed earlier this year, however Sandra now volunteers at a Brotherhood of St. Lawrence Op Shop.
