2021 Sustainability Leadership
Andrew Mahar
Andrew (pictured) is an accomplished social entrepreneur who has spent the past 30 years seeding, nurturing and mentoring more than 15 successful social enterprises in both Australia and Timor-Leste.
He is the founder of With-One-Seed, the first Gold Standard community forestry program in Timor-Leste, which has planted more than 200,000 trees and is expanding across the country.
Andrew has been recognised internationally through numerous awards including the prestigious Stockholm Challenge Award; recognition in the Bulletin Smart 100 Award for his work as a social justice campaigner; and becoming a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2013.
Brandon Winfrey
Dr Brandon Winfrey founded the Monash Solar Decathlon Team, a student team at Monash University that participates in the annual US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Design Challenge where teams design net zero energy buildings.
Beyond the environmental benefits, Brandon’s Monash team has always endeavoured to design buildings that would have a positive social impact if they were to be built, including community housing, a bushfire resistant home and student housing for international students.
Recently, the Monash Solar Decathlon Team designed a primary school catering for kids with disabilities; a single-family home that can help elderly couples, especially those that require a carer; and a domestic violence refuge in partnership with Kara House, a domestic violence organisation.
