Multicultural Champion
Dr Hui Yang
Over the past decade, Dr Yang has trained more than 200 Chinese doctors who have come from China to Monash for advanced learning activities at Monash University, and some cultural experiences that are uniquely Australian like enjoying barbecues and watching AFL footy!
He is also involved in delivering community education to the Chinese community to learn about issues like mental health and how to reduce the stigma around discussing this concern with family and friends.
Dr Yang shares about Chinese culture with his medical colleagues and has undertaken cross-cultural studies on topics including positive ageing and food security and eating habits.
He arranged visits for experiencing multicultural and diversity at the Monash University campus, general practice clinics, traditional Chinese medicine clinics, community health service centres, local libraries, hospitals in Monash, and local cultural attractions of Monash. He also arranged Chinese doctors presenting on SBS Chinese radio program for introducing their experience in Monash City.
He is also involved in community lecture talks to Chinese cultural background residents, helping them understand cultural sensitive meaning and practice on health.
