Positive Ageing Leadership Award 2018

Zhang Hu 

Zhang Hu is a tireless champion for the community and has been active in many projects.

She established the community group Zhangzhou Senior Club of Victoria in 2010 in Mount Waverley to provide a service for elderly people to improve the quality of life and reduce social isolation.

She coordinates a support group of volunteers to help in the group activities, such as organising transport, interpreter services, financial support and tailored activities to suit people, including home visits to seniors who are unwell.

Another great achievement was her initiative in 2010 to develop a successful 3-year VCE program with the Monash University, which was based on a one-to-one learning approach and helped many VCE students to further improve their learning of Chinese as a 2nd language study.

All this while caring for her husband who has had a major stroke.

Zhang has earned great respect from the community dedication and is a role model for many.
