Outstanding Advocate of People with Disabilities
Kaye Speed
Kaye is a long time Monash resident and for the past 17 years, she has played a fundamental role in improving the lives of people with vision loss living in the City of Monash and beyond. She joined Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria (BSRV) in 2001 and has steered the course of this small but vitally important charity, improving the health, well-being and social inclusion of people with vision loss throughout the state.
Joining the organisation was at the same time she was losing her own vision, having developed Retinitis Pigmentosa in her late 40s.
Under Kaye's direction as Treasurer of BSRV its revenue doubled, enabling the organisation to implement new blind sport and recreation opportunities for Victorians aged 3 to 90 years who have vision loss.
Kaye’s tenacity, consistency and unwavering loyalty to BSRV and improving the opportunities for participation and inclusion in sport for people with vision impairment is inspiring.
