Property and City Design

Our purpose: We plan, design and deliver enduring urban spaces in response to our city's growing population, visitor numbers and the ongoing impact of climate change. We provide guidance and support for all matters relating to Council’s properties.

Property

The Property Team provides guidance and support for all matters relating to Council’s properties. This includes:

  • Acting as custodian of Council’s property portfolio and all associated administrative requirements with occupancy renewals and dealings with the Victoria Land Registry.
  • Identifying and leading the sale and purchase (or compulsory acquisition) of Council land in response to Council’s plans for improved open spaces and community service provision.
  • Conducting feasibility studies for potential major developments that include Council land and require negotiations with the private sector and/or other public authorities (such as Suburban Rail Loop Authority/Victorian Rail Track).
  • The administrational/legal elements associated with the creation of easements and roads.
  • Provision of advice for management of leases, licences and agreements associated with the use of properties which Council deliver its services.
