The information in this section describes the background of the Aboriginal people in Monash and contact with the indigenous members of Australia during the European settlement.
The information used to establish pre-settlement Aboriginal spatial organisation is mostly based on observations made by Europeans during the initial period of Contact and subsequent settlement of the study area region.
The resources available for Aboriginal subsistence in the past would have been rich.
While it is outside of the scope of this project to document all of the details of Melbourne's Contact period, the most prominent aspects of the period are summarised.
Knowledge of the specific Contact history of the City of Monash is limited, as very little documentation survives from the early European squatters and settlers in this area.
