Tennis in Monash is off to a smashing start for 2019 with eight new courts now open at Caloola Reserve in Oakleigh.
The new synthetic grass courts are stage 1 of the major redevelopment of Caloola Reserve.
Mayor Shane McCluskey said Council was proud to deliver the tennis courts, as well as efficient and sustainable LED lighting for use by the Oakleigh Tennis Club and the broader community.
“This project strengthens the sport of tennis and ensures the best facilities are available to the community,” Cr McCluskey said.
“In constructing these fantastic courts and the future pavilion, we are creating a true sporting hub for multiple sporting clubs to enjoy and use.”
The new tennis courts are the home of the expanded Oakleigh Tennis Club (formed as a result of a merger between the Oakleigh and the North Oakleigh Tennis Clubs).
Casual access to the new courts will be available via Tennis Victoria’s Book-A-Court system from early 2019.
The Oakleigh Tennis Club will also share a new multi-purpose pavilion with the Monash City Soccer Club and East Oakleigh Cricket Club, soon be developed as part of stage 2 works.
Along with the multi-sport pavilion, stage 2 works will include the development of two Hot Shots courts and a basketball hoop. The works are expected to begin in late 2019.
The State Government is contributing $800,000 towards the project.
