Steering Monash through COVID-19 recovery a focus for new Mayor

Mount Waverley Ward Councillor Brian Little has been elected Monash’s Mayor for the next 12 months.
Cr Little’s focus is on steering Council through the economic recovery from COVID-19 to ensure the best outcomes for the community.
He previously served as Monash’s Deputy Mayor in 2018/19. It is the first time he will serve as Mayor.
“It is an incredible privilege to be elected Mayor and, in particular, through this time of COVID-19 where there’s been so much change and uncertainty for all of us,” Cr Little said.
“Council is well placed to be at the forefront of helping our community to recover from the impacts of the pandemic and make a direct difference in the lives of the people who live, work and visit Monash.
“In particular supporting our economy and vulnerable members of the community is a high priority as we emerge from the hard months of social distancing and closure of some of our services, and work towards a COVID normal way of life.”
Cr Little is also passionate about sustainability, preserving open space and bushland reserves, economic stability and guiding Council towards a sustainable future and net zero emissions by 2025.
He served as a Councillor at Monash in 2003 to 2005 and then was re-elected in 2012.
Mulgrave Ward Councillor Shane McCluskey has been elected Deputy Mayor.
