State Government funding for innovative playgroup program

The announcement of $90,000 in State Government funding to deliver the Playing Fair project within family centres and playgroups has been warmly welcomed by Monash Council.
The Playing Fair program is for playgroup facilitators to develop their skills and capacity to promote awareness of gender equity from an early age.
The Hon Natalie Hutchins MP, State Government Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, Women, Industrial Relations and Aboriginal Affairs, announced the funding for Playing Fair at Monash’s Cabena Child and Family Centre in Chadstone, which provides a free drop in playgroup three days a week.
Mayor Paul Klisaris said the Playing Fair project funding will enable Council to develop and trial this innovative primary prevention activity through playgroups across the municipality.
“This project is unique in that we will work in the playgroup setting by supporting playgroup facilitators to embed gender equity and education on prevention of violence against women into their practice,” Cr Klisaris said.
“It’s another important way to convey to the community the importance of respectful relationships, through early intervention which promotes the cultural change that will make a huge difference in preventing violence against women.”
