Sir John Monash Awards expanded in 2018

There will be some changes to the Sir John Monash Awards in 2018 including changing the Active Monash category to recognise individuals volunteering in sports clubs or groups and extending the nomination period of the awards.
The Awards recognise the Monash community’s achievements to improve the lives of others and celebrate the outstanding work of volunteers in Monash.
Mayor Paul Klisaris said this year the awards ceremony will be held in August to allow for greater community participation in the nomination process and allow more time for the judging of the awards.
“The Sir John Monash Awards ceremony is one of the most highly anticipated events on Council’s calendar and each year we are so impressed by the nominations,” Cr Klisaris said.
“But we know there’s many more people who’d be wonderful nominees for these awards so we are extending the nomination period to give our community more time to consider who they want to see recognised.”
There are currently eight categories in the awards and in 2018 there will be a change to the Active Monash category to recognise individuals’ achievements within sports clubs and groups. It is anticipated this change will encourage more nominations in this category that recognise our volunteers in sports and recreation across the municipality.

- Inspirational Women’s Leadership
- Positive Ageing Leadership
One of the winners from these categories is chosen as the overall winner of the Sir John Monash Award for Outstanding Leadership.
“We want to give more people time to nominate community champions in the award categories because the Sir John Monash Awards are such a wonderful way to recognise those who dedicate their valuable time to help others,” Cr Klisaris said.
Nominations will open from Monday 26 March and close Sunday 3 June.
