Works are underway to upgrade the shared path on Gardiners Creek Trail, between Highbury Road and High Street Road, Ashwood.

The works are anticipated to be completed by Friday 18 June 2021

Gardiners Creek Trail is a popular trail within Monash and is well used by local residents.  The existing narrow path is no longer suitable for the number of users and needs to be upgraded to provide the best safety and amenity for pedestrians and cyclists.

The works include:

  • Construction of a 3m wide concrete shared path following the existing alignment
  • Associated lighting, line markings and signage
  • Removal of one tree in declining health and one small tree to allow for alignment of the new path.  The removal of this vegetation is necessary to construct the new path.  The trees will be repurposed to provide habitat logs in the area
  • Replacement planting of vegetation in an area that does not impact the path.

Work hours are from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, or 9am to 3pm on Saturday as required.

Gardiners Creek Trail will be closed to through traffic during the construction period. Through traffic will be detoured into Montpellier Road, Ashwood Drive and Vannam Drive.

Traffic management will be in place to safely detour cyclists and pedestrians past the work area.

This project has been fully funded by the Federal Government, through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications' Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, Phases 1 and 2.
