Safety in Monash

Published on 03 June 2019

Be Street Smart

Monash is a safe place to live and work.

However, we are concerned by a number of disturbing robberies and assaults that have occurred recently and have been reported in media today (3 June 2019).

Council has been working with Victoria Police and Monash University following these crimes that have taken place predominantly in Clayton but also including some other areas of Monash and Whitehorse.

Victoria Police have issued a number of warrants and made a number of arrests regarding these cases.

Patrols by police have increased and Council and Monash University have security patrols in some areas.

Everyone in our community has a right to go about their work, study and relaxation safely and without fear.

While we continue to work with police to deter these crimes, there are things you can do to protect your personal safety:

  • Unplug from electronic devices when out and about
  • Be aware of your surroundings and any suspicious vehicles or people
  • Walk in groups or pairs
  • Carry keys in your hand for quick access to your vehicle
  • Avoid areas that are not well-lit or are isolated

If you are concerned you are being followed, call 000.
