Reimagining Glen Waverley - final chance to give feedback

A proposed new Glen Waverley Civic Precinct
Monash Council is asking our community for feedback on our proposal to build a new Glen Waverley library and community hub on the existing Glen Waverley library site.
This project is a key part of Council’s transformation and reinvigoration plans for the Glen Waverley Activity Centre. We want to create a library that meets the needs of everyone in our growing and contemporary community and create new flexible indoor spaces for large community events and community group meetings.
This is a major project for Monash. It is proposed to be entirely funded from funds which Council will receive from the State Government for its compulsory acquisition of Council land for the Suburban Rail Loop and from the sale of part of the Central Car Park. This means it won’t impact how much you pay in rates.
With a project cost estimated of more than $110M, this would be the biggest Monash Council project ever and it’s vital we get this right. So, we’re inviting community feedback on the proposed design and funding model.
What is the project?
The design proposes two levels of library and a third level of office with new multipurpose community events and meeting spaces at ground level and a direct connection to Council’s Civic Centre.
It will be surrounded by landscaped gardens and an open and inviting plaza where our community can gather.
The gross floor area includes:
- 4290 sqm of library (four times the current size) including a children’s area with an activity space, parents’ room, a youth area and meeting rooms for library users
- 1010 sqm community events and meeting space which is flexible and highly configurable to cater for both large events and small meetings
- 1620 sqm of office space and meeting rooms (removing the need for Council to rent additional office space currently costing over $400,000 per year) 250 Car spaces plus secure bike storage.
Shape Glen Waverley by giving your feedback.

What happens next?
Following this engagement process, a report will be provided to Council summarising feedback from our community.
If Council decides to proceed with the project, more detailed design work will be completed – taking into account feedback we receive. Once this design work is complete then Council will decide whether to proceed to tender for construction.
It is expected this will take place over several years. And, if the project proceeds, construction will be coordinated with the Suburban Rail Loop works in and around Glen Waverley.
