Old scout halls to be demolished
Published on 13 September 2019
Old scout halls at Carlson Reserve (Clayton North) and Princess Street (Oakleigh) that are not longer required by scouting groups will be demolished and the land returned to open space.
The halls were leased by the Scouts Association of Australia (Victorian Branch) but are not longer required by the Scouts and have been handed back to Council.
The buildings were constructed in the 1960s -70s. A comprehensive review of the buildings found that they are in poor condition and approaching the end of their useful life and would be too costly to modernise to current standards.
The buildings have not been actively used by Scout groups for many years and Scouts Victoria has advised Council that the buildings are no longer needed by their organisation.
The demolition of the Oakleigh Scout Hall will be undertaken in September with the Clayton North demolition to occur in October 2019. The demolition works are expected to take approximately 14 days.
Works include:
- Perimeter temporary fencing to the site to ensure public safety
- Demolition of the building and all associated services
- The safe removal of asbestos by accredited removalists
- Reinstatement of the ground and area.
The works will include reinstatement of the land to open space/parkland.
