The gallery space at the newly refurbished Mount Waverley Community Centre has a new name.

After a community consultation that attracted more than 40 suggestions, a selection panel chose the name The Track Gallery from a shortlist.

Mayor Shane McCluskey said the new name was a nod to the gallery’s proximity to the Mount Waverley Train Station and the Glen Waverley Rail Trail, as well as the track lighting that is a feature of the new gallery.

"The new gallery is a fantastic space and there’s already been a few exhibitions that have been warmly received by the community." Cr McCluskey said.

"Thank you to everyone who had their say on a new name for the gallery."

"There were many really thoughtful suggestions that incorporated the history of Mount Waverley and the important part that art plays in the wellbeing of our community."

Council invested significantly in bringing the 1970s buildings of the Mount Waverley Community Centre into the modern era to provide space for the local community to participate in a wide range of activities.
