New home for Melody sculpture

The Melody Sculpture is being moved from its current location in Eaton Mall to the corner of Portman and Station Street, Oakleigh.

Work has begun on the relocation with the sculpture expected to be in place by Thursday 24 February 2017.

There will be some minor traffic disruptions and pedestrian detours will be in place.

Council decided to move the sculpture last year as the rising popularity of the mall and the demand for more outdoor dining made the artwork no longer suitable for the space.

Children had also been climbing on the sculpture despite signs advising not to, risking their safety and the longevity of the artwork.

The new location is in close proximity to the busy Oakleigh train station and the Oakleigh Central Shopping Centre where it can be better appreciated as a beautiful work of art.

It is important to Council and the local community that the sculpture remains in Oakleigh.
