Monash Arts and Culture Strategy 2025

Monash Council has adopted its Monash Arts and Culture Strategy 2025, a new whole of City vision to reignite our resilient and thriving creative sector.

Prior to COVID-19, Victoria’s cultural and creative sector contributed $31 billion, or 8 per cent, to the Victorian economy, and in 2017 cultural tourism brought $2 billion to the state.

This strategy will look to rebuild capacity across the creative and cultural sector and facilitate growth and recovery opportunities for creative practitioners and businesses.

Creative practitioners and artists will be supported through targeted funding, partnership, and programming opportunities such as creatives-in-residence programs and exhibitions, with career development opportunities for emerging artists and underdeveloped groups.

All initiatives drive a strong creative and cultural sector to support economic growth and development, the visitor economy, and a growing workforce that contribute to Monash’s reputation as a centre for innovation.

Mayor, Cr Stuart James said Council’s vision for arts and culture is to be a city that celebrates and champions its creative industries.

“It is a bold vision that leverages our unique position as a home to nationally significant cultural and educational institutions, and our richly diverse community,” Cr James said.

“Through this work we will continue our commitment to producing and presenting major festivals and events, cultural, educational and literary public programs, as well as growing our reputation as a vibrant place where creativity, diversity and innovation are seen and celebrated.

“We will ensure that arts, culture and heritage continue to inspire, enrich and connect our community by embracing what makes us truly unique.”
