Council has endorsed and released a draft Structure Plan for the Mount Waverley Activity Centre that outlines the future directions for the centre to help it maintain its village feel while accommodating some future growth and change.
Monash Mayor Cr Stuart James thanked the residents of the area for their contributions in May last year in helping to develop the draft structure plan.

“Structure Plans help ensure that any development takes in the specific characteristics of the area and is in line with community expectations,” Cr James said.
“These plans work best when the community has a say in what they would like to see happen in their community.
“What came through clearly in our initial discussions with the community is that people want the Mount Waverley Activity Centre to be a place that encourages development that retains and promotes the much-loved village feel enjoyed by the community.”
Council’s vision for Mount Waverley is a place for all ages, a local place that is easy to get to but is also a destination for visitors, a place for social interaction, convenient shopping, is green and with high quality accommodation.
A number of improvements to the activity centre are proposed in the draft Structure Plan including:
- An improved central pedestrian path – A north-south pedestrian path connecting retail, car parking, public plazas and community facilities to the train station
- New public plazas - A proposed streetscape and public realm upgrade near the Railway Station and an expansion of the plaza near Winbourne Road
- Community centre precinct – Future improvements to the spaces and connections between the library and community centre buildings
- Central car park improvements – Simplifying traffic movements in this highly utilised car park to improve its efficiency and to make it safer
- Stephensons Road improvements - Opportunities to enhance the ‘front door’ of the activity centre.
The consultation period for community feedback will commence on 17 February and closes on 20 March 2020. Information about the draft structure plan and how to comment will be available on Council’s website.
