The Victorian Heart Hospital at the Monash University Clayton campus, in partnership with Monash Health, will provide research, training and education, emergency, public and private in-patient care and will be a purpose built centre of innovation and excellence for the community.
It is a critical facility for Victoria and scheduled for completion in 2022.
The first stage of site works for construction of this facility requires the removal of approximately 147 trees on the site along Blackburn road (opposite the Synchrotron) Clayton), which will start on Monday, 29 July 2019.
Section 16 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 exempts the State Government, through the Minister for Health, from requiring a planning permit for this project.
Council is pleased that the State Government has considered, incorporated and responded to important elements of the Monash Planning Scheme as the project progresses. These include the setback of the facility to Blackburn Road and the intention to retain a garden setting where possible.
