Media response - planning items

Published on 08 September 2023

Approach from Herald Sun

At the August 29 Monash Council meeting there was an item relating to the Talbot Quarry in Oakleigh South.

  1. When I listened to the recording, I heard that the motion wasn't passed and it lapsed - could I please ask you what this means for that planning scheme amendment request now?
  2. Will the issue come back before the council again for approval in the future?
  3. Does the council have a position at all on what it wants to see for the future of the quarry?

Could I also please ask you what development has been approved for 554 High Street Rd Mount Waverley? I have noticed quite a lot of construction work at the site and was hoping to check with you what was being built there?

Response

  • When I listened to the recording I heard that the motion wasn't passed and it lapsed- could I please ask you what this means for that planning scheme amendment request now?
  • Will the issue come back before the council again for approval in the future?

This means that Council’s consideration of the planning scheme amendment request has concluded, and there are currently no further proposals for Council to consider.

  • Does the council have a position at all on what it wants to see for the future of the quarry?

As a privately owned site, it is not appropriate for Council to speculate on or propose future use or development.

  • Could I also please ask you what development has been approved for 554 High Street Rd Mount Waverley?

A seven storey apartment building containing 96 apartments is under construction at 554-558 High Street Road, Mount Waverley. This was approved by the Department of Transport and Planning as part of the Victorian Government’s Big Build Project.
